Teaching and Learning in Small Groups
In recent decades, there have been numerous attempts to define precisely what is meant by small group teaching. Many writers argue that small group teaching method is among the most difficult and highly skilled of teaching techniques, in which in addition to the primary objective of teaching students to think, the tutor must have a number of subsidiary objectives if the small group is to functi...

متن کاملSmall doubling in ordered semigroups
We generalize recent results by G.A. Freiman, M. Herzog and coauthors on the structure theory of product-sets from the context of linearly (i.e., strictly and totally) ordered groups to linearly ordered semigroups. In particular, we find that if S is a finite subset of a linearly ordered semigroup generating a nonabelian subsemigroup, then |S2| ≥ 3 |S| − 2. On the road to this goal, we also pro...
متن کاملOn Zero Divisors with Small Support in Group Rings of Torsion-Free Groups
Kaplanski’s Zero Divisor Conjecture envisions that for a torsion-free group G and an integral domain R, the group ring R[G] does not contain non-trivial zero divisors. We define the length of an element α ∈ R[G] as the minimal non-negative integer k for which there are ring elements r1, . . . , rk ∈ R and group elements g1, . . . , gk ∈ G such that α = r1g1 + . . .+ rkgk. We investigate the con...
متن کاملTorsion in Mixed K-groups
We define generalized Milnor K-groups known as mixed K-groups and give explicit descriptions of these groups in simple cases. Our main result is a generalization of the theorem of Bass and Tate that the Milnor K-groups KM n (k) are uniquely divisible when k is algebraically closed and n ≥ 2.
